Fresh Grace Daily

A middle-aged man sitting on the edge of a bed in soft morning light, reading a Bible with a cup of coffee on the nightstand.

I’d love to tell you I run on pure willpower and spiritual maturity, but the truth is I still wander off like a toddler in a department store. Thankfully, God’s mercy isn’t a one-time transaction—it’s a daily delivery.

I am a child of God, but don’t go thinking that’s because of my sparkling resume. It’s all grace. I didn’t earn a nickel of it.

I need that grace every single day. Not because I’m out robbing banks or committing grand larceny. It’s simpler than that. I just miss the mark.

Gum on a Shoe

I can be stubborn, hard-hearted, and selfish. Those traits stick to a man like gum on a shoe. I’d love to tell you God cleaned me up and now I run on pure willpower, but I’d be lying. I still drift. I think I know the shortcut, and I end up lost in the weeds.

It reminds me of when the boys were little. They’d wander off in the department store, convinced they knew exactly where they were going, right until the moment they realized they were alone. As grown-ups, we do the same thing, usually out of pride. We want to drive the bus.

A Fresh Batch

Here’s the good news: God’s mercy is changing me, even if it’s a slow process. It means when I wake up needing patience or forgiveness, He has a fresh batch ready.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)
